The City of Hilshire Village is proactive in the control and reduction of the mosquito population by spraying insecticide weekly during mosquito season March 1st through October 31st. During increased risk conditions the City increases the frequency to twice a week.
What can citizens do to reduce the mosquito population?
Make sure to drain any standing water on your property
Clear gutters of leaves and debris that prevent water from draining
Repair leaky outdoor faucets
Water in birdbaths should be changed at least twice a week
Correct drainage problems that cause water to pool
Make sure the culverts and ditches are clear of debris
Advise the City of standing water in ditches that do not drain after 72 hours
The City does not use insecticides that are harmful to people, pets or the environment.
Insecticide used by the City’s Insecticide Service Company is “Vector Flex 20/20”
